AS a child of the Sixties like your reviewer (Echo Books, May 5), Dusty Springfield was always part of my young life, right from her time in The Springfields through to her solo career when she became one of the early Sixties greats with the Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. She really was that good!

She was also a person of courage and principle, as in her refusal to perform before segregated audiences in South Africa, and her help of the black Tamla Motown artists to become established in this country.
