THANK you for your article headed “Double whammy if you are planning your holiday abroad” (Business Echo, April 15) about the excessive rates and commissions charged for foreign money exchange.

We are, whether we like it or not, part of the European community. It can be argued, therefore, that as our controllers decided on our behalf not to adopt the euro, then they should have taken the responsibility to put into place, through the Bank of England, a mechanism whereby people within the community who need to change sterling/euros could do so at the rate of the day, without being taken for a ride.
