I AM sorry Ralph Musgrave (HAS, April 13) had such difficulty finding out the boundaries for the forthcoming European Parliament elections on June 4.

I just tried a Google search under the terms “European Parliament elections” and I am pleased to say that our UK Office website was the first link given, with the information on UK electoral constituencies in our first article.

The North-East electoral region comprises Darlington, Durham, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Northumberland, Redcar and Cleveland, Stockton-on-Tees and Tyne and Wear.

For further information on the European elections in the UK, readers can visit our website at europarl.org.uk or to read about the elections in any of the other 26 EU member states which will be voting on June 4 to 7, go to our central website at europarl.

RALPH Musgrave will find the European Election maps he seeks on ec.europa.eu/eurostat/ ramon/nuts/overview_maps_en.

cfm?list=nuts He will also find here boundaries for all of the regions of the UK as decided by the statistical department of the European Commission.

More information can be found on ec.europa.eu/eurostat/ramon/ nuts/introduction_regions_en.html and at eur-lex.europa.eu/ LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri= OJ:L:2003:154:0001:0041:EN:PDF If you keep on searching around Eurostats you can even find listed all of the borough and parish councils in Europe.

The importance of these divisions is shown in eur-lex.

europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:31988R2052:EN:HTML where European structural funds can only be allocated on a European regional basis.
