ALL credit to our former Prime Minister, Tony Blair, for publicly expiating his role in the Iraq war (Echo, April 10).
Mr Blair is obviously a man of profound conscience and sensitivity. Perhaps he should consider making amends with the long-suffering people of Iraq by donating a large chunk of the £15m he is reported to have earned since leaving office in 2007. This sum could be used for creating a foundation for the victims and the families affected by the war.
I have no doubt about Mr Blair’s integrity, but the price of such an appalling lack of judgement as shown by the Iraq invasion should not only be a guilty conscience, but also tangible redress for a nation which was thrown into a bloodbath on the pretext of “saving it from the brutal rule of Saddam Hussein.”
Dr Abdul Jaleel, Darlington.
