I VISITED Byers Green recently to see the new school. On my last visit, years ago, it reminded me of Esh Winning Primary School.
There were separate blocks for infant and junior children on the edge of the village and the views were magnificent.
Now, there is a modern, sustainable school built on the same site and designed to retain those wonderful views over the hills. Why can Esh Winning not have the same?
Or perhaps Durham County Council believes all our children are worth is a new school on a squashed piece of land and views of rows of houses, the back of a doctors’ surgery and a busy main road?
Councillor John Wilkinson, Liberal Democrat (and ex-Headteacher, Esh Winning Primary School), Deerness Valley Division, Durham County Council.
