NO MATTER who becomes the next president of the US, it is pretty certain that the “special relations” between the UK and the US will continue to play a part in any future negotiations without being a priority.
The fact that Donald Trump pursues his mantra of “America first” and Joe Biden, who is relatively unknown outside America, has no defined foreign policy will make life difficult for both governments.
In such a changing world with Russia and China looking to increase their influence and the Middle East in constant turmoil, it is vitally important that the US fully supports Nato and its Western allies in order to counteract these challenges and to provide international stability which is more crucial than ever.
It is just a worry that these hopes rely on an “eccentric” or “geriatric” as the next president!
