I HAVE to disagree strongly with your editorial appeal (Echo, June 20) for the continuation of free TV licences for all those over 75 years old.

There are plenty of over 75s who can well afford to pay for their licences so why ever should they be subsidised? I am 83 years old and am fortunate enough to enjoy an adequate pension and live in my own mortgage-free home.

Why should my TV watching be subsidised by my fellow citizens who are less fortunate and working hard to support their families. It’s nonsense!
