WHAT a way to run a railway and how to lose money year after year.

Last Saturday, there was big race meeting at Redcar and as in the past Arriva trains just put on a normal service, it was obvious that there were going to be many more passengers than usual but unfortunately for some reason they could not once again see this.

When the train reached Middlesbrough all the passengers could not board the train and those who did were crammed in like sardines.

The conductor could not move so most will have had a free ride, apparently the return journey was no better with women and children having to stand in the aisles.

The answer would have been to double up or treble up the train carriages.

Maybe they could not have done this as they must now be running out of old buses on railway trucks.
