I HAVE found the standard of football in this year’s woman’s football World Cup to be extremely high, the technical ability of some of the players is amazing, and our Lionesses are doing us proud.

After decades of institutional and social barriers that have prevented them from playing, it’s great to see woman finally having the opportunity to show off their skills on a global platform.

Sick of stereotypes and being side-lined, female football players are trying to change assumptions made about them.

England’s performance against Cameroon on Sunday was excellent and I allowed the wife to watch it with me, but only after she had washed the dishes, ironed my clothes and prepared tea.
