IN some quarters, there is a premise that the parents of Madeline McCann are guilty when the presumption should be that they are innocent until their guilt, if indeed they are guilty, is found following investigation and prosecution. At present, what we are seeing is continuing discussion, debate and analysis of what we know via the media.

We don't know exactly where the investigation by the Portuguese police is and while all the scenarios and summation circulate, an important missing fact remains outstanding - where is Madeline?

Obviously, a story surrounding the disappearance of a child will always attract attention, but for the moment I think we need some sober thought and, yes, a hope that this matter can be expedited as soon as possible.

After all, finding Madeline must now be a priority as well as who is responsible for a crime that, as yet, is still to be determined.
