QUITE rightly, a lot of the credit for the success of the Great North Run goes to the organisers and the volunteer helpers.
I would like add my praise to two other groups that really make a difference, especially the thousands of "fun-runners" such as me toiling at the back of the field, still passing Gateshead stadium while Paula Radcliffe has gone home to feed the baby.
Firstly, I wish to applaud those generous spectators and supporters who provide welcome encouragement to keep going and other sustenance such as drinks, fruit, sweets, biscuits and even improvised showers. Thanks, it really is appreciated.
Secondly, I wish to say what great music was provided all along the route, all types of bands of the highest standard. The highlight for me was provided by one of these bands as they and the Blues Brothers put on a great routine as we approached the final two or three miles. I don't know how the Blues Brothers still had the energy but it was pure magic.
