SOME may say that community spirit does not exist any more, but it certainly did for our Breast Cancer Care fundraising event at Middlestone Moor Club on September 15.
Our dance team from Asda, Spennymoor, had been rehearsing in the club for many months to get The Blues Brothers right. It does take real dedication and commitment.
None of us are paid for any of this and all fabrics, etc, for costumes are paid for by us. We have never been a store that relies on bucket-shaking to raise funds, we always like to give something back to our customers.
Performing on a stage is extremely nerve-racking. Most of us were terrified in the few minutes it took to reach the stage from the changing rooms.
We needn't have worried. Support flooded at us immediately and the nerves ebbed away. Most of the audience in the packed club were community - only 20 per cent being Asda colleagues. They cheered and kept us going over three performances and £1,000 was raised.
We cannot thank the club enough for the incredible hospitality, or the people who supported us in such an amazing way. Thank you all.
