I AGREE with columnist Rob Merrick when he says the decision on whether Britain accepts the new EU Treaty is one that our elected representatives should make (Echo, Sept 13).
Weighty matters of this sort should always be settled by Parliament.
When the 1975 referendum went the Government's way, which meant we were staying as European members, Prime Minister Harold Wilson described it as the most decisive result in the history of our democracy, but many people today are regretting that decision.
Although a referendum has been called for by the TUC, there seems to be little public clamour for this.
