WHAT another splendid performance of the Last Night of the Proms the BBC screened last Saturday.
It reminded me of the fantastic summer evening I spent at the Proms in the Park in Bishop Auckland on Sunday, July 8.
Although slightly belated, I would like to give praise to Wear Valley District Council for organising that event with such professionalism.
The tranquil setting within the grounds of the hidden jewel that is the historic Auckland Castle was perfect for singles, couples and families alike.
The orchestral performance and renditions of the many patriotic classics, while enjoying a couple of glasses of wine, made for an almost perfect evening.
The only part of the programme that needs tinkering with is the firework display finale which didn't have the same impact when being let off with the sun still shining brightly.
Apart from this logistical technicality, I enthusiastically look forward to next year's event and can recommend it to anyone.
