THE news that nearly 600 police and community support officers are to patrol the streets of Teesside in what has been termed a return to the style of Dixon of Dock Green is to be welcomed (Echo, Aug 24).
It is an excellent initiative by Cleveland Police and Chief Constable Sean Price is to be congratulated.
The people in the various communities have let it be known that they wished to see an increased police presence on their streets and it is good that the force has responded in this way.
This very pleasing enterprise will help to promote the area and deserves to succeed.
LD Wilson, Guisborough.
