PART of the overall solution to the massive problem of underage drinking must be more investment in facilities for young people.
If there is little for them to do outside their homes in the evening, and nowhere for them to go, it is hardly surprising we see alcohol and drug problems.
Teenagers across the North-East need to be asked what they want, the money needs to be found, and our young people must be involved at all stages.
Furthermore, the police need to be freed from paperwork and given the resources they require and we desperately need more flexibility for district councils to apply appropriate local licensing legislation. This is common sense, regardless of political persuasion.
