WHY is Ian Swales (Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Redcar) so keen to rubbish Redcar and Cleveland's economic performance (HAS, Aug 17)?
As I posted on my website as soon as he started talking down our economy, latest statistics do show Redcar and Cleveland to be performing strongly.
The Tees Valley Joint Strategy Unit find average weekly earnings of full-time employees for Redcar and Cleveland to be above the Great Britain average, and part-time employees earn on average about £20 per week more than their counterparts in other Tees Valley boroughs.
The statistics also show a steady drop in the number of people of working age claiming benefit.
Redcar and Cleveland is thriving.
Why does Mr Swales want to pretend it isn't?
Vera Baird, Redcar MP.
