IN response to recent letters about religion I suggest that the question concerning which understanding of our condition as human beings is most satisfactory is for each of us to decide as individuals.

Christianity is our religion and if we feel ourselves to be in a world where we must have a sacrificial lamb to take away our sins it provides God in human form to fulfil that need.

My religion is Buddhism because, as I see it, we need to come to terms with the fact that our youth and strength go and we die. It provides us with a way to accept our impermanence.

I am not prepared to even think to myself that the formulations made by other people are wrong. All that matters is that we recognise our humanity, and care for one another.

Those without religion can do that.
