I SHARE Hugh Pender's view that we should not simply "hang in there until things come right" in regards to Iraq (HAS, Aug 11).

That is why I suggested we remove the real threat to the stability of that country which is undoubtedly the insurgents and militia. I would also suggest the creation of three states in Iraq consisting of Sunni, Shiite and Kurd should be given consideration.

It is a sensitive and complex matter and the immediate withdrawal of our troops is not the solution, as was proven in Basra when violence increased as we reduced the number of our troops.

It was Mr Pender's dismissing George Galloway simply as an "enigmatic character" that I intended to respond to.

In my view, George Galloway is an example of the fascist left.
