I WOULD like to respond to the Reverend HW Jackson's observations about wanting to become an organ donor (HAS, Aug 7).
Firstly, I am pleased he is keen to learn more about becoming a donor, but sorry he has had difficulty in doing so. There are a number of ways people can sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register and record their wishes to help others by donating their organs after death.
The register is maintained by UK Transplant and our website - www.uktransplant.org.uk - contains information about the donation process, answers to commonly asked questions, as well as providing the opportunity for people to sign up online.
Alternatively, our Organ Donor Line, 0845-6060400, provides a 24- hour service to answer any questions.
Information is also available in our leaflets at most GP premises. It is also possible to sign up to the register when completing a driving licence application or when applying for a new passport.
Our research shows 90 per cent of British people support organ donation, but only about 14.5 million people, or 24 per cent of the population, have signed the donor register.
