AFTER all the photographs of Posh and Becks lately, what a pleasure to see your front page picture of the Red Arrows flying over Roker beach as part of the Sunderland International Air Show (Echo, July 30).
With the warship and rainbow beneath them, it was remarkable, bringing back many happy memories of Roker Park and the RAF.
Then, there was your front page photo of little Zoe Chambers being hugged by her mum, Julie, after the youngster's heart transplant (Echo, Aug 2). You can see the love they have for each other, a love money or fame can't buy.
Talking of money, Wearhead United were celebrating their centenary and requested a flypast by the Red Arrows on their way to Sunderland.
According to Mike Amos in Backtrack (Echo, July 31), club treasurer Cliff Dalton, on asking what time it would take place, was told precisely 15.21. He was expecting to be told sometime between 2pm to 4pm.
Makes you wonder when a certain John Terry signs a contract for £130,000 a week that the Red Arrows, who give better entertainment for millions of people worldwide, will be lucky if they get that in a year.
