AFTER watching England’s latest attempts to progress in another international competition I can honestly say, ‘no way’.

Out of all Gareth Southgate’s hopefuls, I, personally, would name only four of the present England squad who win my vote as an automatic choice and in order of merit they are, Walker, Dier, Rashford and Vardy.

On the other hand, I have never, in my 80 years watching football, seen a team with so much possession be so ineffective.

As for Gareth Southgate, I would suggest that when England practice, he gives them a football to use.
