AT the end of July, I reported to Darlington council that a tree adjacent to my property was in a dangerous condition.

I received a letter from the council stating that as it does not own the land, it was not its responsibility.

For the last 21 years, the council has cut the grass around the tree, cut down two large trees and planted two replacements.

Does the council not own any trees – or just the ones that do not have problems?

While on this subject, the council states that it has a cycle of 25 to 30 days for grass cutting, yet the grass on the tree’s plot was cut on July 5 and then on August 17 which, by my calculation, is 43 days.

The town in general is in a terrible state, weeds everywhere.

It is about time this council improved the situation.
