I AGREE with Eric Gendle’s comments about Vince Cable (HAS, Aug 24).
Vince is a man who has always commanded respect – not a word you readily associate with the public’s attitude to politicians.
In fact, I can only think of two or three who come into the same category, for example Ann Widdecombe and Dennis Skinner (although Dennis often nullifies the wisdom of what he says by the way he says it).
Certainly Vince would have made a far better prime minister than any of those we have had in recent years.
As for the crash of 2008, had the likes of George Osborne shown an iota of Vince’s realism and foresight, then the disaster, when it hit, would probably not have been as sudden or catastrophic.
Probably many people lost their lives as well as their savings in that episode.
