LAST week I was a passenger on a coach en route to Edinburgh where from my elevated position I could see straight into the cabs of HGVs we overtook.

I witnessed several drivers on the phone, one reading paperwork, and another had a mug of tea, or coffee in his right hand. How this didn’t spill all over the place is anyone’s guess.

I’ve seen that police in some parts have the use of their own HGV so they can observe these idiots from close quarters.

I’m not saying that all lorry drivers are irresponsible, but from what I saw for myself I was appalled at the amount who flout the law.

Being in charge of a 38 tonne truck is a massive responsibility.
