I CANNOT understand the obsession with redeveloping a rotting and decaying area such as the former SSI steel site. Is this the only place in the Tees Valley available for redevelopment?

Contrary to popular belief the site is not a world class industrial asset, it is drenched with so many hazardous chemicals no international firm would go within ten miles of it.

There is no Willy Wonka golden ticket, yet we are led to believe there are 60 interested parties chewing at the bit to win one. Who are these businesses?

If the team led by mayor Ben Houchen were serious about redevelopment on a more realistic scale over on the old ICI site there is ample area. It is clean, safe and has all the infrastructure available, including rail and road.

An area primed and ready to go not all this silly 25 year projection.

But that’s exactly what the Government want.

Teessiders aren’t mugs. The delaying tactics that can be achieved in 25 years are endless.
