AS I forecast (HAS, May 22), polling day was “May Day! May Day!” but not for the reasons I’d predicted.

Theresa May’s election campaign, thankfully for the poor and pensioners, was an unmitigated disaster. As the campaign gathered momentum it became obvious why her campaign team had tried to restrict her to stage managed events.

Her few unplanned appearances confirmed what many observers had long suspected, much as with Gordon Brown, that she did not like people very much and was uneasy with confrontation. As one of her predecessors would have said, she was “frit”.

On a local level, I hope that Phil Wilson will resign his Sedgefield seat to make way for someone who shows even a smidgeon of loyalty to the leader of the party that he was elected to represent. He did not deserve to be elected.

WELL done, all the young voters who supported Jeremy Corbyn. Pity his own lot who had no faith in him – they should hang their heads in shame. Mr Corbyn will carry on regardless of those who doubt him. Our MPs should remember the people who voted for them.
