I AM an employee at Remploy in Spennymoor which is among those under threat of closure.
I have worked for Remploy for 12 years and feel safe there. The Government wants to farm us out to outside industry. That is not acceptable. I went to a mainstream factory in Spennymoor and could only last a morning.
They do not cater for disabled people.
We have been told we cannot transfer to another Remploy so what happens to us? More people on the sick, that's daft. We will be costing the Government more money and getting it for nothing.
At least in the factories we work for our money. We are proud to work for Remploy.
The Government thinks that's what we want, but has never asked us. If it had, we would not be in this position now.
We may be disabled, but we have our own minds and make our own decisions. Once the Government and Remploy board of directors realise this, the better.
If they want to save money, sack the board who are able-bodied.
They can get a job anywhere, we can't.
We will not go down without a fight to save all Remploy factories in the UK. - Simon Huntington, Shildon.
