I FIND Lord Mackenzie's recent comments in support of DNA testing of newborns repugnant, abhorrent and worrying.
Already the most surveilled country in the world, this idea takes matters to new heights and is insidious in the extreme.
And before I get all the usual guff about "nothing to hide, nothing to worry about", I prefer to say, I have nothing to hide, so why should I submit to this invasion of my privacy?
Insurance firms, to name but one, would love to get their paws on this info, to weed out those of greater risk of certain diseases.
Or do some people think we live in a fair and free society and that profit-driven capitalism would not stoop so low?
Surely only newborns are so innocent and naive.
