AT last, I've finally read a report with which I can agree - Sharon Griffiths' article about an international conference which looked at the intensive parenting industry (Echo, May 23).
For years, I have despaired of all these experts' views on child rearing. They all seem to be written with the object of making mothers feel failures.
All babies are different - what works for one does not necessarily work with another. The only advice I would give new mothers (and expectant mothers) is this: work out the routine that suits you and your baby best. If an expert's theory does not work for your baby, do not feel inadequate. You aren't. Trust your instinct. Do not let these selfappointed experts pulverise you into submission.
My one regret is not writing a selfhelp book entitled, How To Get Your Baby Sleeping Through The Night.
After all, my daughter did just that at three-and-a-half weeks - nothing to do with my superior parenting skills. She just liked to sleep, exactly like her grandfather. But I would have made my fortune.
