I ENJOYED the story about young Saltburn cricketer Lee Hodgson who took a catch in the recent England v West Indies Test match at Lord's (Echo, May 28). It must have been a proud moment for him.
As a schoolboy in the 1950s, I would spend many a Saturday afternoon watching Saltburn play in the North Yorkshire South Durham League. Saltburn's best player was opening batsman Jack Pearson and I remember him making a brilliant 188 in a match against Blackhall in 1954. His innings included 25 fours and three sixes. It made the local headlines and the match was a talking point when I returned to school on the Monday.
