A LANDSCAPE artist is complaining about his perspective being spoilt by the growing of crops like oil seed rape. We have a growing use for these crops in the environmentally-friendly production of bio-fuel.
With the rapidly impending threat of worldwide demand for food outstripping supply, I wonder how long it is going to take him and our Government to grasp reality.
As has already happened with forestry products where the supply of cheap imported timber has dried up due to demand from developing countries like China, our food security is threatened.
It is vital that aesthetic interests do not continue to take priority over the production of food and other valuable resources from our land.
