A FEW people will not give any credit to the work of our MEPs, however good and relevant their work is for the people of Europe.

The spread of the use of mobile phones created bonus conditions for the companies involved. The lack of effective market forces has enabled excess profits to be made.

Due consideration has been given to the following regulations. It is expected that by the end of June 2007 the charges within Europe will be set at 33p a minute for making a roaming call and 16p a minute to receive a roaming call.

If customers have been able to make a better deal than this they will be able to opt out.

The regulation is set to last for three years by which time an assessment will have been made as to whether it should continue or not.

This is just one of the many pieces of work that should not be dismissed out of hand and which ought to be brought to the attention of the wider audience.
