I HAVE always been an ardent monarchist and would defend the Royal family (warts and all) to the death. I am, however, utterly dismayed to hear that Prince Harry is not to go to Iraq in support of the Oath of Allegiance he would make on taking the Queen's commission.

I believe this decision reflects on the total lack of leadership within the Ministry of Defence.

Harry was not serving when this illegal war began and simple foresight would predict that any serving soldier would, on completion of training, be eligible for a posting within that theatre.

This decision has been a smack in the face for the families who have made the ultimate sacrifice for this country, all 150 of them.

No doubt while Harry's contemporaries face genuine mortal danger in Iraq, he will continue to enjoy the pleasures of London's nightlife, continually being photographed in pursuit of his hedonistic lifestyle.

The fabric of this country continues to deteriorate.
