I SAW two unusual animal sights recently, but unfortunately wasn't able to photograph either.
Both were too brief. The first was a sparrow clinging to the stalk of a tulip in the garden and putting its head completely inside the cup flower of another.
Wife Sylvia looked inside the tulip heads and saw what was so tempting for the sparrow - greenflies.
We have never seen this before. I waited a long time, but it didn't return before we had to go out.
The second was in St Sampson's Square in York city centre; a house mouse skeltering around the square where all the cafe tables are. A good place to find titbits, as confirmed by pigeons and other birds.
People were eating close by, but none of them noticed, or we may have witnessed screaming females or little boys chasing it. It was very tiny, quick and kept moving. Had it stopped and posed for me, I would have needed more capable photographic equipment than I have.
