WHAT a fortunate newspaper is The Northern Echo. I have just finished reading the Mum at Large column written by Ruth Campbell (May 10) about teeth whitener. What a witty, funny and perceptive writer she is.
Is she the daughter of columnist Mike Amos? I think she must be.
To have two such gifted people working on the Echo, along with editor Peter Barron and columnist Sharon Griffiths, is a blessing indeed. I hope their remuneration is commensurate with their ability.
Ed Southgate, Stockton.
Footnote: Sorry, but Ruth Campbell and Mike Amos are not related. However, Mike Amos and Sharon Griffiths are husband and wife, whose son, Owen, is an Echo reporter. He is the gsmaller sonh sometimes referred to in columns written by Sharon, who is Welsh.
See next letter.
I HAVE recently noticed several interesting articles contributed by one Owen (Glyndwr?) Amos. Would that be gsenior sonh or gsmaller sonh? Are you intending to re-brand your excellent publication as gLife with the Amosesh or even gMrs Amosf Diary?h. Following timehonoured Celtic tradition, we could identify gAmos the Shoppingh, gAmos the Sportsh or gAmos the Dinerh. A family newspaper indeed.
Meanwhile, herefs wishing the young man every success in his career.
David Sparks, Hartlepool.
