I HAVE read, with a modicum of amusement, of the various trials and tribulations regarding the small size of parking spaces in the Commercial Street car park in Darlington.

I thought it didn't really affect me as I rarely drive into town, but recently I had to make that journey.

As Commercial Street was the nearest to my destination, I reluctantly parked up. No cars either side - great. For how long?

On my return, access to my vehicle was impossible. Two 4x4s had parked adjacent to my car. As you can imagine, the air was somewhat blue. What's that expression? "You can never find a bobby".

After a lengthy deliberation, I decided my only course of action was to climb into my car through the boot - no mean feat for a 63-yearold.

Can I suggest that if Darlington Borough Council is determined to provide those of us with averagesize cars with restricted parking space it should allocate a separate area to those larger 4x4s.

But, hey. Why should the council worry about such parking problems for residents of Darlington when it is about to dig up (again) on the site in question?
