SOME years ago we had a police constable in Coxhoe called Jimmy Johnson. Was there a better police officer that ever walked the beat in Coxhoe? I doubt it.
When Jimmy was on duty after the pubs and club closed he soon cleared the street of rowdy drunken men. It should be remembered then the pubs and the clubs closed at 10pm, and later they closed at 10.30pm.
He would have the street cleared by 11pm without any bother from drunken revellers.
Jimmy was a member of Coxhoe Working Men’s Club and, as soon as he set foot in the club doorway, he was always well received by the members.
He is a big miss to the residents of Coxhoe but left a lasting memory that I will never forget.
It is sad that we have no police officers like Jimmy walking the beat in the Coxhoe area.
I am sure we would all sleep easier in our beds if someone like that was keeping us safe.
Jimmy Taylor, Coxhoe
