I WOULD like to reply to Hugh Pender’s letter (HAS, Dec 1) about Ukip and protest voting.
Mr Pender, by his own admission, is a life-long Labour voter, but he is willing to forego those principles which he has stood for for many years.
What is the problem? Is it the principle of free movement of workers within the European Union or the influx of illegal immigrants? When he talks of many immigrants disappearing into the black economy, then I would suspect that the problem is with headline-grabbing illegal immigration.
David Cameron was happy to say recently that net migration is up, putting this down to the improvement in the economy, which is debatable in my opinion.
If Nigel Farage ever got his way then our country would be so poor that not even the worst off would come.
Nothing changes. The same attitudes prevailed in the 1950s into the 1960s when there was an influx of West Indians from Jamaica and the other islands.
Maybe, Nigel Farage is a reincarnation of Enoch Powell.
