I WOKE last Friday and was pleased to find that the majority of people allowed to vote in the Scottish Referendum had seen through the blatant anti-UK and, in particular, the anti-English rhetoric that SNP leader Alex Salmond had been delivering.
He had failed in his attempt to break up the long-established family of the UK, but due to the inept performance of our “political establishment” which had been panicked into making unwise promises, has unfortunately left a minefield of issues that will not easily be addressed.
If Scotland is to be given “home rule” the Barnett Formula should be abolished and the West Lothian question finally exorcised. What is okay for Scotland should be okay for the rest of the UK.
Mr Salmond has been likened to Nigel Farage in putting forward a case for independence, but I can only answer such commentators by saying that unlike Mr Salmond, who campaigned for the break-up of the UK, Mr Farage is campaigning for UK independence from Europe and definitely not the break-up of the UK.

I AM very pleased that the voters of Scotland have decided to stay within the United Kingdom.
We could ill-afford to lose such a precious jewel.
Demonstrating their spirit of adventure it would seem many young people voted for independence.
A characteristic of the Scottish is that they are quick on the uptake and this was certainly the case with a Scot I knew as a friend.
The stock market, too, was pleased with the result.
LD Wilson, Guisborough.
MY mother always said “Tories were never to be trusted”. Now the referendum is over, the only type of power David Cameron and his toffee-nosed pals will send up to Scotland is maybe wind power – they will be lucky if they get a few windmills to stick up on the Scottish moorland.
Don’t be fooled by a word they say.
