IT has become increasingly obvious that David Cameron is more suited to his original employment in public relations.
He reacts to events, thinks tactics rather than strategy and, like a lot of bright people, thinks that he can salvage things at the last minute.
In PR one can get away with this impulsive approach, as events are more transitory, but in national politics you need more than good fortune.
In the run up to the referendum, Mr Cameron allowed himself to be outmanoeuvred by the SNP and then had to concede to their original wishes as a eleventhhour panic measure. He’s also been wrong-footed by Vladimir Putin in the Middle East and has played a poor hand in the EU.
He will last until the General Election but the knives are already out in readiness for the elevation of Boris Johnson.
