HERE’S a game of spot the logic.
In Darlington, if a single occupant lives in a fully furnished house, you get a discounted council tax bill for the full year. However, if you suffer a bereavement and a property becomes empty, you get one month’s grace then the next of kin is expected to pay the full rate each month – this being in addition to the council tax you already pay for your own home.
I just can’t work out why a sole occupant who would be using the pavements, street lights, refuse collections etc gets a discount, but if no one is using any of the services the full amount is charged. It’s like being charged £10-a-month to use a gym but if you don’t use it you’re charged £20!
