IT is really good to see a MBE being awarded to Peter Barron, the editor of The Northern Echo.
Peter is someone who deserves a medal for what he has achieved, and continues to do so.
Sadly, it appears that in far too many cases it’s a case of who you know.
A local man running a local paper, instead of a southerner with no knowledge of the area is how it should be.
Otherwise it would be rather like Bruce Forsyth writing for Viz.

IT was nice to see Peter Barron awarded the MBE (Echo, June 28).
Peter has raised thousands for charities in our region .
All too often honours go to so-called celebrities who have done nothing to help others.
Well done Peter, keep up the good work.
