FRANCIS MATTHEWS was born on October 2 1927 in York.
He is best remembered as the famous voice of Captain Scarlet from the Gerry Anderson puppet sci-fi series of the 1960s.
However, he was also a great British actor in his own name.
Over the years he has appeated in several classic films and television series including Dracula, Prince of Darkness, Rasputin, The Mad Monk, The Revenge of Frankenstein, The Saint, Dixon of Dock Green, The Human Jungle, The Avengers and Paul Temple.
He always got along with the famous stars he worked with and counted Roger Moore, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Barbara Shelley and William Franklyn among his friends.
Sadly on Saturday, June 14 he passed away at the age of 86 years. But he left us a wonderful legacy of work from the Hammer Horror movies to the great TV shows.
Terry Christie, Sunderland.
