BRITAIN lost its sole remaining tank factory when BAE Systems pulled the plug on the plant at Scotswood, in Newcastle, last year with the loss of 350 jobs.

The site was sold to Reece Group, which owns five companies. One of these companies is called Pearson Engineering, which produced defence orders for BAE Systems and General Dynamics UK.

Challenger 2 is the British Army’s main battle tank.

It needs the facilities, the equipment, machinery, the tools and the man power to build these vehicles.
