BRITAIN lost its sole remaining tank factory when BAE Systems pulled the plug on the plant at Scotswood, in Newcastle, last year with the loss of 350 jobs.
The site was sold to Reece Group, which owns five companies. One of these companies is called Pearson Engineering, which produced defence orders for BAE Systems and General Dynamics UK.
Surely armoured vehicles could be built at the Reece Group plant at Scotswood?

Challenger 2 is the British Army’s main battle tank.
It needs the facilities, the equipment, machinery, the tools and the man power to build these vehicles.
It remains one of the best tanks in the world, but units are very expensive and someone needs to find a way to get the cost down. It has the potential to be as successful as the Centurion.
