IN REPLY to the letter regarding care from Lesley Jeavons, Durham County Council’s head of adult care (HAS, Feb 20) we had insisted that our mother be put in a home, which she wants.
However social services told us that we would have to pay for it ourselves. It is not the procedure which is the problem, if we were able to pay for it, or if my mother could pay or had owned her own house, they would put her in the home without problem.
However, this is not possible, so it’s all in social services’ hands and this is where the difficulty is stemming from. We feel the system is letting us, and the vulnerable elderly, down.
A Forster, Shotton Colliery.
