WITH regard to Malcolm Dunstone’s letter about the Liberal Democrats’ record in Government (HAS, Feb 21).

The Lib Dems no longer have any credibility on anything.

They caved on fracking, on the bedroom tax and on tuition fees.

After the next General Election they will be reduced to the same level of parliamentary representation that they had in the 1980s during the days of the old SDP-Liberal Alliance.

In the North-East, they were seen as an acceptable replacement for the Tories as the party opposition to Labour. But not any more.

They are no longer acting as a restraint upon this Government, but as its accomplice.

Martin Jones, Spennymoor.

AT last, a Liberal democrat supporter has appeared in The Northern Echo.

Obviously, a General Election is approaching.

Mr Dunstone should realise by now that the public perception of the Lib Dems in parliament has changed more than somewhat since the 2010 General Election.

Lib Dem MPs are seen by the voting public as a bunch of disingenuous power-seekers will to compromise their manifestos and election promises.

Just ask university students about that one.

Most of them will disappear without trace at the next General Election next year, according to the polls.

It is reported that the Lib Dems are currently courting Ed Miliband in case his star is in the ascendancy. They may be better advised to cuddle up to Nigel Farage and his bunch.

Harry Watson, Darlington.
