A NEW cancer support group has been set up in Newton Aycliffe, founded by a lady who is recovering well from leukaemia.
The first meeting was on February 6. I went along and found it very friendly. There were members of the Macmillan cancer support group, plus other people suffering from cancer and also in recovery.
I found it very interesting and was made to feel I had known these people for years thanks to a very relaxing atmosphere.
The group are still trying to think of a name rather than cancer support, which makes it sound a little on the dull side.
Far from it, we are going to have a guest speaker each month from various parts of the cancer support service (such as welfare rights and dieticians).
This is not just about cancer, it’s about getting people back into going out and enjoying themselves; going to such things like ten pin bowling, the pub and eating out. It is not just a cancer support group, but a club with a social side to it.
Our meetings are held once a month at the Neville Parade Methodist Church, in Newton Aycliffe, and we would welcome new members from all surrounding areas to join us.
Meetings start at 6pm and last until approximately 7.30pm on a Thursday night.
