REGARDING the ITV programme Britain’s Best Bakery I write with some observations and structured criticism.

As with the previous series, which I thoroughly enjoyed I watched every episode.

I am an avid baker so all aspects of the programmes appealed to me; viewing also made more interesting when someone from your own area was taking part.

I thought the final three days were very fair, although I think the public should have been made aware of the backgrounds of the three contestants.

I took it upon myself to do my homework and felt the Angel’s Share bakery, from Richmond, were by far the least experienced.

Angel’s Share is fairly local to me (12 miles away) and I have supported them from the day they opened. Consequently, on Sunday, it being my first opportunity, I called in to offer my congratulations.

They were obviously very thrilled with the result but when I asked where their plaque was they said they didn’t have one.

In fact, there was nothing to suggest they had taken part, let alone making it through to the final three from the original 60.

I felt they might just as well have gone out in the first round.

Whatever sporting event or competition you take part in there is always recognition for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

As the gateway to the Dales we attract a lot of tourists now, particularly walkers but custom has been very thin over the past ten years.

As a result of continuous hard work by all in the tourist industry, we are starting to attract more visitors and anything that will serve as an incentive to visit is looked upon as a welcome bonus, depicting the commitment of all concerned.

I think ITV’s failure to recognise dedication is, without a doubt, decidedly shabby and profiteering.
