I CAN understand Network Rail wanting to re-build the line at Dawlish, demolished in last week’s storm, to get things moving again as fast as possible.
However, surely they must find a better long-term solution to build a new connection away from the coast?
Who is to say the same thing will not happen again next year?
A new line may prove costly, but would save money in the long term.
JM Gowland, Heighington.
DAVID CAMERON’S leadership during the floods clearly shows his determination to attract the floating voter.
VJ Connor, Bishop Auckland.
JOHN GILMORE should be ashamed of the sentiments expressed in his envy-filled letter (HAS, Feb 15). No one, be they Labour, Conservative, rich or poor, deserves the fear and destruction caused by the floods in the south.
My heart goes out to these people and I hope I never have to face anything similar.
By all means make your political point scoring, but not at the expense of those poor souls in the south. Shame on your narrow mind.
Anne Blood, Sedgefield.
